Canadian Adoptees for Truth and Openness
by Ron Murdock
I've been fighting both the Nova Scotia Government and the Federal Government in Ottawa for some twenty-five years to open adoption records in Nova Scotia. I call this fight "TUSS" (The Uphill Ski School) since the effort involved, trying to get anywhere with these governments, makes trying to learn to ski uphill look very easy.

Congratulations to the NDP

Congratulations to the NDP on their recent win in Nova Scotia. Here is the email I sent to Darryl Dexter today. I wonder if he will respond?

Dear Mr Premier

Congratulations on your party's outstanding success in the recent election.

You are aware of my continuing interest in the issue of adoption disclosure legislation so my question to you now, as Premier, is as it has always been: when are you going to fine tune adoption disclosure legislation so that an application for personal information made by an adult adoptee is regarded as just that, an application for information, and not regarded as a request for contact with a natural parent or an implied right to a relationship?

If these issues were separated from one another, made clear and incorporated into law, there is no reason whatsoever to continue treating older adoptees as second class citizens in Nova Scotia. To take such a step needs compassion, clarity, courage, conviction and a lot of moral fibre. I think you are more than capable of all of that.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,

Ron Murdock
